I just started to do a parkour class last week. The place that I go to do parkour is called
Flip City. It is a VERY tiring
sport. I haven’t done gymnastics or any
of that kind of sport before. I can’t
even do a cartwheel!
When I first came in the building I was very
nervous. Luckily, I have the nicest
coaches. The first thing that we do in
parkour class is stretches. We do lots
of stretches like the butterfly, which is the easiest. I am not flexible, so lots of the stretches
are hard.
After the stretches, we start. Our coach tells us what we are doing. My first day he said that we had to do
handstands and headstands. My first time
I did my headstand he said that I did pretty good. I am getting the hang of headstands now. But with the handstands, I had a lot of
trouble and I still do. I do terrible
with handstands. The reason why
handstands are hard for me is that I my arms feel weak and I collapse.
After that, he said that we needed to jump on a mini trampoline
and do a roll, up onto a horse. It was
kind of hard but fun. I think I did
pretty well.
At the end, we had to do all of the things we did that day,
in a loop. A coach timed us when we
went. I messed up one thing but I think
that was the only time I messed up. I had so much fun.
Last
night’s class was really fun. Guess what
we needed to do! We needed to do
round-ups. Round-ups are like a
cartwheel. To do one, click your feet when you are up in the air, and land the
opposite way you were facing. It was
hard but fun to try.
Next thing we did were “kongs.” (Kongs are vaults, a kind of jump where you
use your hands first and then swing your feet over to the other side.) Kongs are one of my favorite things to do in
parkour class. We had to do a kong all
the way across a long mat thing. I
couldn’t do it so I had to jump on the mat thing first, and then jump to the
floor.
After that we had to get creative on the mini tramp over the
horse. I was just doing the stuff we
learned. The other kids were doing crazy
stuff like a double kong, or a handstand on the horse, with a flip over.
I got to go on the big trampoline, and learn some stuff with
a coach. I got to stay a little longer after class ended. My coach told me that for a beginner, I was
off the charts! I had so much fun. I wish parkour class was every day.
